Nike is seeking a Material Designer to support innovative footwear projects by designing and curating materials that combine visual appeal, technical functionality, and sustainability. Duration: 6 month contract w/ Possible extensions
Location: Beaverton, Oregon
Work Mode: Onsite
Responsibilities:
Design and curate innovative materials that enhance footwear aesthetics and function
Collaborate with project teams to align material solutions with functional specs and end-use
Present materials concepts, palettes, and mood boards to stakeholders at key decision points
Create hand samples and prototypes to evaluate material ideas
Use design tools to develop detailed CADs and tech packs for factory communication
Integrate sustainable and eco-friendly materials into design strategies
Consider manufacturing feasibility while balancing form and function
Align material storytelling with trend, consumer, and athlete insights
Skills/Qualifications:
Strong blend of artistic creativity and technical knowledge in material design
Proficiency in design software for material creation and CAD development
Experience producing prototypes and communicating with factories/suppliers
Understanding of sustainable material options and design for manufacturing
Ability to collaborate across teams and effectively present concepts to stakeholders
Informed by market, material trends, and consumer behavior insights
